gaudiloquent (gaw-DIL-uh-kwuhnt) - adj., (rare, obs.) speaking joyfully; speaking on joyful matters.


Not to be confused with the (relatively) more common grandiloquent, speaking grandly/in an impressive manner (read: pompously). Never common, now supposedly obsolete, though you can find a few uses in this century, all in contexts where the writer or speaker is consciously showing off. From Latin from gaudere, rejoice + loqui, to speak, but I'm not sure whether the word was coined in Latin or in English from Latin roots -- either seems possible.
