Said regions being scattered areas of the American southeast and "certain" British dialects, plus also in Australia a synonym for witchetty-grub, apparently going off the stomach-ache sense. Origin uncertain, but back in the 1590s it was spelled mulligrums, apparently an alteration of megrims, headache, alteration of French migraine.
