fizgig - n., a type of firework that makes a loud hissing sound; a spearlike implement with barbed prongs for spearing fish in the water; a flighty or flirtatious young woman; (Aus.) a police informer.


The last two meanings seem to be from fizz + gig, girl. The spear, sometimes spelled fishgig, is from Spanish fisga, harpoon. No one seems willing to take credit for the firework, which is what I'm most interested in.
