agraffe or agrafe (uh-GRAF) - n., a clasp consisting of a hook and a loop used on clothing (and formerly armor); a cramp iron for holding stones together in building; a hook, eyelet, or other device holding a piano wire to limit its vibration.




Used a lot in medieval European clothing, as well as armor. From French agrafe, from agrafer, to hook onto, from a-, to (from Latin ad-) + grafer, to hook (from grafe, hook, from Old High German krāpfo).
