ignescent (ig-NES-uhnt) - adj., emitting sparks, esp. when struck by steel.


Also, easily catching fire, so a rare synonym for volatile, but the above's the primary meaning insofar as it's used at all. Flint is an ignescent stone. From the 1820s, from Latin ignēscēns, present participle of ignēscere, to catch fire, from ignis, fire.
