cespitose or caespitose (SES-pi-tohs) - adj., growing in tufts.


Also, growing in a mat, like turf, which is the root sense (from Latin cēspes/caespes, turf/grassy field), but honestly my reaction is more focused on the fact that, yes, there's a word for this. I'm sure there are things other than grasses this applies to (certain unfortunate baldness patterns?) but still.
