Also called Brazilian grapetree. We got the name from Portuguese, no surprise, and while every source I've checked agrees it's the native name from a Tupian language, there is considerable disagreement over which word and even which language it's from: choices include iauoti kaua, "having branches tipped with black fruit"; îaboti kaba, "place where tortoises are found"; and ïapoti’kaba, "fruit in bloom/in a bud".
