jaboticaba or jabuticaba (zhuh-boo-ti-KAH-buh) - n., an evergreen tree (Myrciaria cauliflora) native to southern Brazil bearing on the trunk small clusters of edible, grapelike fruit; the fruit of this tree, purplish-black with a white pulp, which can be eaten raw or used in jellies and drinks.

Also called Brazilian grapetree. We got the name from Portuguese, no surprise, and while every source I've checked agrees it's the native name from a Tupian language, there is considerable disagreement over which word and even which language it's from: choices include iauoti kaua, "having branches tipped with black fruit"; îaboti kaba, "place where tortoises are found"; and ïapoti’kaba, "fruit in bloom/in a bud".
