lam(m)ister
Aug. 15th, 2023 07:28 amlammister or lamister (LAM-i-ster) or (most commonly) lamster (LAM-ster) - n., a fugitive from law enforcement.
Someone on the lam -- which is a late 19th-century slang extension of the original meaning of lam, to beat/strike, as in "beat it!" meaning "leave now". That older sense now shows up pretty much only in lambaste, and dates to the late 16th century, probably of Scandinavian origin.
