The little-known synonym of retrograde. In medicine, the most common use is anterograde amnesia, where memories after an event are affected, as opposed to retrograde amnesia, where it's memories from before the event that are. Coined in 1876 from Latin roots antero-, in or to the front (from Latin anterior, former/foremost/previous) + English -grade, pace/step.
