That is, a wading bird (Scolopax minor) related to 7 other Eurasian species of woodcocks, of the sandpiper family. Also called bogsucker (another snickername) and hokumpoke (not finding an etymology for that one). The name apparently comes from timber as in woodlands, as they're often found there + doodle in the sense of cock, male bird.
