Leftover from last week. Especially one who says stupid things or is a braggart. This is much more common in Ireland than anywhere else, and the collective is a shower of gobshites. First attested in 1946, from gob, mouth (which appears in the States in the candy called gobstoppers) + shite, alternative form of shit -- so someone who talks shit.
