vespertine (VES-per-tin, VES-per-tayn) - adj., of, pertaining to, or occurring in the evening.


Where in botany this can be blooming then, in zoology being active then, in astronomy rising or setting then, and so on. Not to be confused under ANY circumstances with vespine. Borrowed around the end of the 1400s from Latin vespertīnus, from vesper, evening + -tīnus, adjectival suffix.

But I confess, I hadn't been paying attention to your pronunciation guide and in both cases was mentally pronouncing the words as if they ended as does "machine"
